Is Biomagnetism similar to magnet therapy?
No, Biomagnetic Therapy is not similar to traditional magnet therapy in its theory, practice, or application. While some basic scientific principles apply that are synonymous to both therapies, Biomagnetic pair Therapy is vastly different in the types of magnets used and the approach taken to achieve an outcome.
Biomagnetism uses pairs of magnets utilizing both the positive and negative magnetic poles together to balance the pH. The magnets must have a minimum field strength of 1000 gauss. The time required for application of pairs is very limited—between 4 to 25 minutes (and is further discussed in course material).
Magnet therapy typically consists of wearing bracelets, necklaces, shoe inserts, laying on a magnetic pad, etc. utilizing single polarity with the principle of the south pole as an analgesic and the north pole as an anti-inflammatory. Magnetic therapy often uses much lower range of field strength, sometimes as low as 100-500 Gauss. Other magnet therapy devices can be found on the market with higher Gauss concentrations such as those found in magnetic sleeping pads or PEMF (Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field) device which can range anywhere from 3,000-14,000 Gauss. The exposure time with these devices is for hours, days, weeks, and even months.
